On 15 December 2021, the first webinar of the “Common Understanding” series launched by ENRICH in China gathered over 60 participants from Europe and China.
The Common Understanding webinar series has the objective of providing valuable insights to European and Chinese collaboration, based on real cases from organisations and companies that work with these topics every day.
In this first webinar, we were delighted to have Jure Tomc, Li Huabing, Shangjia Li and Yuanjie Yu join us as guest speakers, from the fields of Agrotech, Innovation and Technology – always analysing how European and Chinese organisations can explore synergies together and which challenges may arise.
After the guest speakers’ interventions, Daniel Pichler and Miljan Radunovic co-moderated the interactive Q&A and Brainstorming Session using a Miro board. The speakers were asked specific questions regarding the content of their presentation and an active discussion between the panellists took place.
In the sense of the webinar’s name – “Common Understanding” – we believe that the main takeaway from Common Understanding I is the following: In order to establish and preserve sustainable relationships between European and Chinese organisations, it is essential to understand the cultural context. This is not to be understood as a vague promise, but rather a concrete topic to be assessed, reaching out to professional organisations for cultural/language training or soft landing programmes in China, for instance. Financial instruments obviously play a fundamental role, however failing to correctly assess the business landscape and develop the proper cultural understanding might deem European-Chinese collaboration to failure.
In the words of your energetic speaker Yuanjie Yu – “Capital is only one the means. The strongest pull factor comes from the size of the Chinese market.”.
